Careum FOUNDATION
The Careum Foundation Zürich is a partner of the praxisHochschule – University of Applied Sciences. This cooperation is an important building block for the implementation of new programmes, particularly the degree program Dental Hygiene and Prevention Management (B.Sc.). Here, the internationally renowned curriculum of the Careum Foundation or the Careum Training Centre has been adapted to German requirements. The high level of this curriculum is an important reference for academic and later practical training as a dental hygienist.
The university applies Problem-Based Learning (PBL) in all courses in addition to the innovative didactic concept of Careum:
The focus of the teaching is on actual case studies where, under the supervision of scientists and practitioners, students formulate learning objectives and work independently in small groups before reconvening as a group to examine their progress. This reduces the classical lecturing style of teaching and supports the students’ autonomous learning. This learning phase will be supplemented with practice units in our own clinic or vocational schools, where students will take seminars, lectures and self-study tutorials.
Through the didactic approach of PBL, students acquire knowledge, skills and abilities but also personal development as a significant element of the study path.
